Worcester Fire Fighters Memorial 6k Race and The Red Cross are proud to
announce a partnership to make this years benefit better than ever.
Support your community by walking or running in the 6K Road Race,
followed by the excitement of the American Red Cross 4th Annual
Great Golf Ball Drop - where you could be the winner of $10,000.
Numbered golf balls will be dropped from a Worcester Fire Department
aerial scope truck to a golf hole below - the golf ball that lands
in the hole first will be the winner of $10,000.
All proceeds raised by the Great Golf Ball Drop project helps
to support local disaster needs. When a disaster strikes and
there is nowhere else to turn, people turn to the American Red Cross.
Please help us be there - around the world, around the nation and
around the corner.

Let me start by telling you a little bit about our race (if you are unaware of it).
It was started after we lost our six brothers in the Worcester Cold Storage Fire
back in December 3, 1999 and has evolved into Worcesters biggest community and
family event. The proceeds from the event have changed since its conception;
at first the race was formed to raise money for the permanent Memorial Fund being
built in the memory of our fallen brothers. After the first year
(in which all of the proceeds were donated to the Memorial Fund) we decided
we had to give back to the community, our way of saying thank you for all
the support that was given to us during the tragedy. Each year we pick 3
different charities along with the Memorial Fund, all non profits and to date
we have donated over $230,000. The 10th Memorial race charities will be announced
later on in the year.
The race averages over 900 walkers/runners and well over 2000 people present at the park on the day of the event.
The race/walk is not like any other event around the city of Worcester.
The focus of our race is not on the race itself, nor is its focus on donating
to the charities; it is more about the community and bringing the city and
surrounding towns together in a city block party. At the event we have a
free barbecue, beverages, clowns, petting zoo, moonwalk, free massages, a
live DJ, a post race party at Tweeds on Grove st in Worcester, a silent
sports auction (at the park only this year), prizes and much much more. This
year we are also having a concert performed by the Worcester Firefighters
Pipes and Drums. The bonus part of all this is that we raise money for those
in need. The other unique thing is you dont have to be a runner/walker to
enjoy all of these things, just come to the park and take it all in. The race
itself starts (running under two aerial ladder trucks draping the American Flag)
and ends at Institute Park. The course is a figure eight that runs by both
stations where the six firefighters worked. The day concludes with a post
race party at Tweeds.
The race not only has the areas best runners competing but also has those who
enjoy walking and reflecting on the moment. The memory of our fallen brothers
will never die as long as we keep this event going, and with the help of our
sponsors and people like you getting the word out, it will continue to live on.
Please help the Worcester Fire Department help support local non-profit
charities.
